Lock-up Procedure (Radio-active Beams)

Overview

Before radio-active beam can be delivered to DRAGON, fence gates must be closed and locked to prevent access within 1 metre of where beam might stop in the target, separator, or end detector.

When is lock-up required?

Lock up is required if

  • HEBT2:MB0 is on, to direct beam to DRAGON, and
  • the ion source is 'downstairs' (not OLIS)

How to lock up DRAGON

There is a key for each of the (many!) gates which give access to the DRAGON target and separator. Checking to make sure that no-one is inside the area, lock each gate and remove the key. Take the keys to the transfer lock (located north of the End Detector region) and turn each key clockwise. Once all keys are in, the DRAGON ASU key can be removed. Insert it in the 'ASU key release unit' and turn it clockwise.

Detailed instructions for Lockup and Access are provided at the transfer lock.
