ChangeTargetGas

Under normal circumstances, Rick Maharaj (rickster@triumf.ca) should be contacted to change the target gas supply and flush the lines. However, we can also do this ourselves in cases where we need to change the target gas outside of normal working hours for example.

Below are the instructions for changing the target gas supply from hydrogen to helium and flushing the gas line.

1. Close gas supply line valve 10, located on east side of the gas target.
2. In the gas shack, close the hydrogen valve located close to the ceiling.
3. Open the helium valve, located next to the hydrogen valve.
4. Turn valve below flow meter from Hydrogen to Helium
5. Fully open the bypass valve next to valve 10 located next to the DRAGON gas target.
6. Check the flow rate on the flow meter using the steal ball. The flow rate should be ~100 s (where s stands for steal) for helium and ~85 s for hydrogen. There flow rates correspond to 600 cc/min and 1000 cc/min for helium and hydrogen, respectively. The aim is to flush the supply line with 5x its volume. The time required to do this is ~40 mins, but allow an hour to ensure the lines have been fully flushed.
7. After waiting an hour, close the bypass valve and reopen valve 10.
